Emily Chapin
Emily Chapin applied for service in the British Air Transport
Auxiliary in January of 1942 when she was 29 years old. Chapin, born
in Twin Falls, Idaho was living in Rye, New York at the time of her
application. Emily had a private license and 203 hours when Cochran
recruited her. She traveled to England with the sixth and last group
of American women. She was in service to the ATA from August 1942 through
February 1944. Chapin made the same decision as Mikki Allen had and
joined the WASP on her return from England. She received her WASP training
in class 44-W-10.
After Chapin left the WASP she returned to the Northeast and worked
as an engineer for General Precision Laboratories and the Singer Corporation.
She died in 1978.
